Office furniture ? TV fantasies
When you see a soap opera or movie about high-flying executives, they all seem to have huge offices with lounge suites, cocktail cabinets, and all en-suite facilities. But that is just for TV. To be sure, those high-rolling executives of Wall Street bankers had some pretty swish offices, but the reality is different.
The state of the office all depends whether managing director actually had a hand in founding the business or was recruired to get the profits coming in. If he washired run it, then he probably will have a big office, as it was decided this would encourage him to take the job – along with the Mercedes and all the other perks.
On the other hand, if the owner is also the managing director, he will probably begrudge the space a large office would need, especially as he spends a lot of time out there running the business. In fact, he might wonder why he needs an office at all – except for somewhere for his secretary to work.
Of course, the type of offices vice presidents have is very different from the computer stations that most employees have, and they also differ according to the nation. For example, up in the north of England, and in Yorkshire in particular where they invented the expression ‘where there’s muck there’s brass’ – or dirty jobs bring in the money – they keep things pretty simple.
Office refurb companies turn office blocks into pretty smartoffices
Not entirely, though, because now office refurb boys have got some snazzy ideas of how to turn drab buildings into elegant offices that anyone would be glad to work in. Leeds is one city where there are plenty of older office blocks which although in need of office maintenance, can be converted into offices. Office refurbishment in Leeds is easily done these days by a number of specialists.
Obviously, if you are relocating to Leeds, you will want some office removals to Leeds, and there are specialists that handle relocation in the city. These are rather different from home removal firms as they are very good at at packing electronic equipment, office furniture and filing cabinets and a lot of heavy stuff.
Other cities where you are likely to find a goodly number of buildings suitable for turning into offices you dream of include Glasgow and Leicester. On the other hand, the City of London, Bristol were so badly bombed during the war that most of the old buildings were either razed to the groundruined, or knocked down for redevelopment later. And those redevelopments of the 50s and 60s look are not a pretty sight.
